Xda-Developers | LG’s 5G smartphone will have a Snapdragon 855 and 4000mAh battery
LG is one of the more mainstream Android OEMs despite many of their shortcomings. Just like their Korean rival, LG intends on showing off a 5G smartphone pretty soon. The company has announced that they expect to reveal the LG 5G smartphone (which appears to be alongside the LG G8 at the CCIB) in Barcelona on the 24th of February. Following that, LG will be showing off the device at MWC from the 25th of February to the 28th. It will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 system-on-chip, a 4,000 mAh battery, and it will also improve upon the LG V40's vapor chamber for enhanced cooling.
The LG 5G phone looks to be your typical flagship smartphone of 2019, with 5G support and the latest Qualcomm chipset. The 4,000 mAh battery is a welcome addition, as it's pretty difficult to complain about getting a bigger battery.
It was originally speculated that the 5G smartphone launched by LG would be the LG G8, but that appears to no longer be the case as etnews reported that they are, in fact, different devices. They're still getting announced at the same time, it seems. Does that mean that the LG G8, despite (presumably) having a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, will not support 5G? That looks to be the case, which may cause some confusion. We've probably already seen the LG G8, and it looks near identical to the LG G7 ThinQ. The South Korean tech giant is certainly planning something big for MWC.
LG claims that 5G is essential to a flagship smartphone launched in 2019, as a survey conducted by the company on 1,000 Korean and US customers suggested. 74% of respondents said that a 5G service is needed, and 70% of those who said it was needed said they can use it for uninterrupted media streaming. If that really is the case, then it's strange that the company appears to be launching a non-5G supported smartphone. There's not long to go until both of these smartphones are unveiled, and it's possible that we may see even more leaks ahead of time.
