Xda-Developers | Samsung Exynos 7904 mid-range SoC announced with an emphasis on the Indian market

Today, Samsung Electronics has announced its latest addition to the Exynos 7 Series SoCs: the new Samsung Exynos 7904. This SoC is targeted towards phones in the mid-range segment and is customized for the needs of the Indian consumer.

The Samsung Exynos 7904 is built on a 14-nm process, and is equipped with 2x Cortex-A73 cores clocked @ 1.8 GHz, alongside 6x Cortex-A53 cores clocked @ 1.6GHz. The Cortex-A73 cores work as the "big core" within the SoC to deliver fast single-core performance that is expected out of a mid-range SoC, while the Cortex-A53 cores work in harmony to perform routine tasks with lower power consumption. The embedded LTE modem in the Exynos 7904 supports Cat.12 3-carrier aggregation for 600Mbps downlink speed.

"Samsung is committed to bringing world-class innovative technologies for the consumers. With smartphones driving the digital revolution, Indian market has great potential. The Exynos 7 Series 7904 will enable advanced mobile experiences in a broader range of devices with triple-camera support, powerful performance and connectivity."

Rajeev Sethi, Senior Director and Head of Sales and Marketing, Device Solutions, Samsung India

The Exynos 7904's Image Signal Processor (ISP) supports up to 32MP in single-camera resolution, and also has support for an advanced triple-camera setup for high-resolution imaging and other features such as wide-angle shots and bokehs. The mobile processor also supports FHD video capture at 120fps or UHD (4K) video capture at 30fps. The processor also supports FHD+ displays, which should be enough to serve needs in the mid-range in the near future.

The Exynos 7 Series 7904 is currently in mass production. We expect to hear more about Exynos 7904 devices later this year.

The Exynos 7904 sounds perfectly suited for future devices in Samsung's A-series as the included Cortex-A73 cores pack enough of a punch to keep the average consumer satisfied. Depending on its pricing, Samsung could also possibly consider it for the higher variants in future M-series devices.
